Verification questions

Still have a question?

Our certification team answers within one working day.

Ask the team
  • Why should I verify a supplier's certificate?

A certificate document alone does not prove current status. Certificates can be suspended, withdrawn or reduced in scope after they are issued. Checking with the issuing certification body confirms that the certificate is genuine, current and covers the products, services and sites you are relying on.

  • What information will you confirm?

We confirm the certificate holder, certificate number, standard and edition, the certified scope and sites, the original and current issue dates, the expiry date and whether the certificate is currently valid, suspended or withdrawn.

  • How long does verification take?

Most requests are answered within one working day. Please include the certificate number exactly as shown on the certificate, together with the holder's name, so we can locate the record quickly.

  • Is there a charge for verification?

No. Verifying the status of a certificate we have issued is free. Providing accurate information about certification status is part of our obligations as a certification body.

  • What does a suspended certificate mean?

Suspension means the certificate is temporarily invalid, for example because a surveillance audit was not carried out or a major nonconformity was not resolved in time. The organisation must not claim certification while suspended. Suspension is lifted once the issue is resolved.

  • What if a certificate appears to be fake?

If we cannot match a certificate that carries our name, we will tell you and investigate. Misuse of our name or certificates is taken seriously and may be reported to the relevant authorities.

  • Can I check the scope of a certificate?

Yes. Scope matters as much as validity. A certificate may cover one site or activity but not another. We will confirm the exact scope wording so you can judge whether it covers the goods or services you are buying.

  • Can certificate holders request a verification letter?

Yes. Certificate holders can ask us for a letter confirming status to share with customers or tender panels. Contact us with the certificate number and the recipient's details.
